Ementoring FAQs
What is eMentoring?
Ementoring is an electronic version of the proven practice of mentoring, in which a more experienced person shares her experience and expertise with less experienced "protégé" or what we refer to as Mentees, in a way that helps the Mentee achieve a goal. In WomenTech World's ementoring, this exchange of information and inspiration takes place via e-mail and is focussed on career goals.

Where do I begin?

First Register for an account
Once you have an account log in to the system and "Place a Posting", (create a Posting about yourself, what you want people to know).

To avoid losing any of your profile, we recommend that you pre-write your essays and either copy and paste them onto our site or retype them one at a time, remembering to save after each essay.

Helpful hints:

  • Remember that your profile is the first impression you make, so put your best foot forward.
  • The essay questions allow you to highlight your career goals & achievements.
  • Don't worry about saying too much - the more you say and the more specific examples you give, the more likely it is that someone out there will read your profile and say, "Wow! This is someone I can relate too!!"

How are Mentor/Mentees matched up on the WomenTech ementoring site?

There are several ways to find a good match. First, it's important to know that mentors choose mentees or vice versa, based on predefined selection criteria such as Occupational Career Cluster, industry you work in, State, etc.

Now for selecting a good match:

After you have created a Posting, you will want to browse through postings for a Mentor or Mentee. Now you can do this search by:

  • Simply by clicking on the links provided, first the top level Mentor or Mentee, then by the posting categories you are interested in, and then finally on the postings themselves.
  • Browsing the Postings, which allows you to see all postings .
  • Advanced Search, which allows you to search on keywords such as identifiers that might appear in a resume or an essay.
  • Power Search, which gives you the option of crafting a much more precisely tailored search and retrieval service. Try all to see which method meets your needs.
What is AutoNotify?

What is My Checklist?

My Checklist is like My Favorites or Bookmarks. When you are looking at Posting that interests you that you'd like to go back and review easily at a later time, simple check the empty box before the details link. You can return to these postings at a later time simply by selecting My Checklist from the top menu.

I have selected my Mentor or Mentee now what?

As soon as you select your mentor or mentee from you search, please contact her.

Mentors - don't hesitate to send an introductory email giving the mentee some information about yourself - education, career path and present duties. Don't be shy about asking them for information about their background, career goals and expectations. Some mentees will be shy about contacting you first, not knowing what to ask first. Break the ice by asking them their needs.

Mentees - Feel free to initiate the online exchange by an email telling your mentor about yourself and what career information you need. Remember that the mentor volunteered to help and is expecting regular contact with you. Don't worry if it seems awkward and stilted at first. As you become comfortable together, communication will be become easier.
